FAQ’s

1. What is Birla Institute of Applied Sciences (BIAS)?

It is higher technical education institution for B.Tech. and MCA degrees.


2. Where is it located?

BIAS is located in Bhimtal town near Nainital in the Uttarakhand State of India.


3. How to seek admission?

Admission at BIAS is granted by Uttarakhand Technical University through online counselling based on merit in JEE as well as by MHRD, GOI for wards of  Kashmiri migrants. Direct admissions are also granted against seats remaining vacant.


4. Whether students from other countries can seek admission?

Yes, through ICCR or AICTE.  For guidance, candidates can write to the Director, BIAS (director@birlainstitute.co.in).


5. Whether hostel facility is available?

Yes, to all admitted students. Hostels are well equipped.


6. What is campus placement status?

It has been 90% for MCA final year, 80% for B.Tech. final year eligible students in the Academic session 2014-15.


7. What about Sports, Games, Recreational facilities?

Yes, in large number. Facilities exist for Football, Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Gym, indoor games etc. Also, facilities exist for pursuing hobbies in robotics, model building, programming etc. Various Clubs namely: Literary Club, Sports Club, Eco-Club, Cultural Society, Techno-Forum facilitate students to participate in several activities and excel in their creative skills.

8. What are weather conditions at Bhimtal?

Bhimtal climate is mild and enjoyable almost 10 months in a year. January and February are cold. However, there is almost NO fog, days are sunny. Bhimtal weather is ideal for academic pursuit and research activities.  

9. Is there any kind of ragging?

Ragging in all forms is strictly banned in the Institute premises and elsewhere. We strictly follow AICTE, UGC and Hon’ble Supreme Court Orders very religiously. There has NOT been any case of ragging for past 6-7 years or so.

10. Choice of passing out graduates?

Usually, following trend has been observed as the choice destinations of BIAS graduates; (1) Corporate sector: about 80 %, (2) Higher studies in India or abroad: about 10%, (3) Government jobs: about 5%, (4) Own business: about 1-2 %, (5) Other sectors: rest of the graduates.  

11. After studying at BIAS, in how many years (of job), my investment is paid back?

It depends on your efforts and results. However, on an average, in two years of job with average salary, your entire investment on studies at BIAS gets paid back.  

12. Whether study loan facility is available?

Yes. With BIAS fee structure/ receipts, your parents can approach any Bank for study loan. BIAS also helps in getting Study Loan from Banks for its students.
