Process of new Admissions Completed
The process of new admissions in all the programmes of the Institute has been completed and closed on 31.08.2016 in all respects. All the seats in B. Tech. programmes have been filled. MCA programme in first year of three years degree did not receive good response. However, all the seats of MCA second year (lateral entry) have been filled. Classes for B. Tech. first year had started on 12.08.2016 in full swing. For MCA, classes had started on 16.08.2016 without missing any lecture or practical. Students joining late are being adequately compensated through extra classes by the respective faculty.
Workshop on Good Governance
MHRD and the World Bank NPIU organized a “Workshop on Good Governance” for higher technical education institutions on 31.08.2016 at India International Centre, New Delhi. Prof. B. S. Bisht, Director, BIAS was invited in the Workshop as Chairman of the Governing Council of B.C.T. Kumaun Govt. Engg. College, Dwarahat (Almora) as well as G.B. Pant Govt. Engg. College, Pauri (Garhwal). It was under TEQUIP-II programme. The Workshop was coordinated by the World Bank (India) Office Executive Mr. Marmelekho Francisco and it was Chaired by Mr. R. P. Agrawal, Former Secretary, Higher Education, Govt. of India.
Director, BIAS delivers key note address in Science & Technology Conference
Prof. B. S. Bisht, Director, BIAS was invited as Lead Speaker in the National Conference on “Recent Advances in Science & Technology” held at the Seemant College of Technology, Pithoragarh on 29.08.2016. He was also the Guest of Honour for the progamme. Prof. Bisht delivered a detailed talk on the topic “Recent advances in Science and Technology – Preparedness for Future”. Besides, the Director addressing the Conference, two students of BIAS also presented their research papers in this Conference.
Sri Krishna Janmastami was celebrated at Girls’ Hostel of BIAS by girl students as in earlier years on 25.08.2016 in the evening. The programme included devotional songs, Radha – Krishna dances, narration and quiz competition on life, work and philosophy of lord Krishna followed by puja. Director of the Institute and some of the faculty members with their families also participated.

In the Faculty Seminar series (fortnightly), Dr. Devendra Mishra, Assistant Professor (Chemistry) delivered a talk on 20.08.2016. Title of the talk was “Structural elucidation of drug molecules”. It was well attended by faculty members. The Director, BIAS chaired the Session.

Raksha Bandhan Celebrated
Raksha Bandhan (Rakhee) festival was celebrated at BIAS on 18.08.2016. All the first year students those who did not go to their homes on this occasion (holiday), were invited by Prof. B. S. Bisht, Director and Mrs. Vimla Bisht. The programme was held between 10 – 11 A.M. at the BIAS Rose Garden. The Director hosted the programme with sweets, snacks, tea party and blessings to all on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Independence Day Celebrated
70th Independence Day of the country was celebrated at BIAS with great enthusiasm. The Programme was chaired by Prof. B. S. Bisht, Director, BIAS. Chief Guest on this occasion was Air Vice Marshal Vidya Bhusan Batra (Retd.). Guests of Honour were Air Vice Marshal Puran Chandra Singh Rautela (Retd.) and Dr. P. C. Pandey from YMCA.
The National Flag was hoisted at 9.00 AM. It was followed by singing National Anthem. Next, the Director addressed the students, staff, faculty members and guests. He also presented the progress report for last one year highlighting the major achievements. The Director also listed the major projects for next one year. Next, the students of BIAS presented cultural programme; songs, dances, poetry all devoted to the nation. The Chief Guest in his address, narrated his experiences of working in difficult conditions in high mountains specifically Kargil and protecting the boundaries from enemy. He also motivated the young men and women to join the armed forces. The programme was concluded with distribution of sweets in traditional way.

Freshers Orientation Programme
Orientation Sessions for Freshers held on 12.08.2016. All the first year students admitted recently at BIAS were given Orientation Presentations. First, Prof. B. S. Bisht, Director extended warm welcome to the newly admitted students and addressed them in the forenoon session. It was followed by Coordinators and faculty Members of the respective programmes. Specific topics covered were background of BIAS, historical developments, surroundings, faculty details, hostels, laboratories, medical facilities, mess facility, campus out timings, sports and games facilities, extra-curricular activities, Spectrum, cultural activities, various clubs, encouragement for research, library, CCTV Cameras (30 nos.) in the Campus and so on.

Interviews for Faculty
Interviews were held for contractual faculty at BIAS on 10.08.2016. For Mechanical Engg, ECE and CSE, 8, 12, and 21 candidates appeared in the interviews respectively. The Selection Committee has submitted panels. On approval of the Chairman, BoG, offer letters will be posted based on vacancies.

Prof. S. K. Joshi, Chairman, Board of Governors visits BIAS
Chairman, Board of Governors Dr. S.K. Joshi (Former Director General, CSIR and currently Emeritus Scientist, National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi) delivered a lecture at BIAS on the topic “Discovery and Innovations: Two Poles of Creativity” on 08.08. 2016. It was attended by the faculty members, invited guests and students of final year. The guests included Prof. P. K. Pande, Air Vice Marshall P. S. Rautela, Brig. H. M. Pant, Dr. S. S. Negi, Dr. Veena Pandey, Dr. Kavita Pandey, Shri C.P. Brijwasi, Shri Rakesh Saha and others. Prof. Joshi kept the audience spell bound for almost two hours as he described discovery and innovations with the help of gravitational wave propagation theory, fusion of black holes, as well as animation films. He advised the younger generation to be more innovative in their work and day-to-day life. He advocated greater degree of freedom to the new generation for exposing their creativity.

Chairman, BoG, BIAS Dr. S. K. Joshi and Director, Dr. B. S. Bisht were invited by ARIES, 3.6 m, largest Optical Telescope facility of India at Devasthal on 9.8.2016. Seen with the Scientists. The Telescope is in the background. ARIES proposed collaboration with BIAS on design of sensors and computer software for some of the operations.
Seminar on Disability and Distributive Justice
A Seminar was organized at BIAS on “Disability, Distributive Justice and Inclusive Growth in North India” on 07.08.2016. It was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, MHRD, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Collaborators were Manav Sewa Samaj, Uttarakhad, Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Speakers were from DU, JNU, BIAS, and MSS.

Regular Classes started
For the new Academic Session 2016-17, classes have started for B. Tech. Second , Third and Fourth Year students on 01.08.2016. For newly admitted B. Tech. First Year students, classes have started on 12.08.2016. Reporting and hostel allotment was on 11.08.2016. For MCA First Year and Second Year, classes have started on 16.08.2016. For MCA Third Year, the date of start of the classes was 05.08.2016.
The Second Round of on-line Counseling has been completed on 03.08.2016 by the Uttarakhand Technical University for granting admissions in its affiliated colleges. Candidates those who have been granted admission at BIAS, started reporting on 04.08.2016. Last date was 08.08.2016. All the seats in B.Tech. programmes have been filled by this date. In case of some students leaving in between, the vacant seats will be filled as and when the vacancy arises from the wait list.
